Containerized Ozone Generator Piszolla

Newland EnTech Europe has supplied a containerized ozone generator plant for Piszolla’s factory in Alba de Tormes (Spain).

At the end of 2019, a pilot test is launched in Alba de Tormes facilities to determine if the ozonation process is the most suitable one to remove the geosmin in the river water.

The pilot plant yielded very promising results regarding ozone application, serving to determine the recommended capacity for an industrial plant.

In June 2020 Newland is commissioned to design and build an industrial plant based on data collected from the pilot plant, adapted into the existing facility.

The premises requested by the client were:

  • Goal 1: Eliminate geosmin in water.

  • Goal 2: Comprehensive control of ozone doses.

  • Goal 3: To obtain a water river with higher quality to the current one for other uses of the plant.

  • Goal 4: Minimize the necessary civil works.

With those objectives, Newland engineers began the design of a 3 kg/h ozone plant from liquid oxygen that incorporated a complex system of ozone dose regulation and waste control in the water.

The entire design of the plant was made in a 20-feet container suitable for the climate of the area, incorporating thermal insulation and air conditioning.

Likewise, Newland developed the design of the contact chamber and the diffusion system to obtain the maximum yields in mass transfer.

In November 2021, Newland delivered the plant to Piszolla Group for industrial use, giving personnel plant training. At customer's request, the "SENTINEL" remote access system was installed to support the plant from the Newland offices.

In June 2022, the plant has already been in operation for more than 6 months, having fulfilled the 4 objectives set by the client.

According to Jose Manuel Marcos, Projects Manager, "even in the absence of completing annual cycles to verify the effectiveness of the system in different environmental conditions, we must corroborate that the results are positive, achieving the first objective of eliminating geosmin and other substances that caused undesirable flavors in the meat of the trout".

At the same time, according to Carmen Angoso,  Quality and Environment Manager, "the start-up of the ozone plant has meant from the point of view of both organoleptic and microbiological quality, a step forward. We have managed to eliminate anomalous flavors due to the presence of geosmin and also the microbiological quality of the fish has improved significantly. We have noticed better results and detecting less presence of Listeria in those times during which it is easier to find it given the ubiquity of this bacterium. In addition to better organoleptic and microbiological quality of the product, we have obtained a starting water to use as water of optimal distribution and then introduce it to our ETAP.

The technological contribution, communication, proximity, problem solving and implementation of the system through NEWLAND has been very successful, being very satisfied with the results obtained".

With more than 40,000 kg/h of ozone installed around the world, Newland contributes to the environment protection by reducing the consumption of chemical products using clean technologies.
